VPC OffLine Reader Distribution Download Area |
DESCRIPTION
Although you can read messages with just those two files, we recommend the convenience of the FlightAdventures Virtual Pilot Center™ OffLine Reader (VPCOLR), which will add a graphical front end/interface for Windows® platforms. This third file is optional, but it will greatly enhance the ease of reading, replying to, and searching for messages.
Price? OLR.pl and VPC OLR Unregistered version are fully functional and available to use for free.
VPC OLR Registered version cost is $25. All proceeds help support the VPC operational expenses. Please visit the Pilot Shop under Memberships to register your copy of VPCOLR.
1. Install VPCOLR_Perl.exe, vpc_olr.exe, and VPCOLR_MySQL.exe in any order. If you have the room (>20 megs free) we recommend installing to the default folders on drive C:.
2. Start VPCOLR. (Win NT, 2000, and XP users, please see the additional instructions below.)
3. You'll be greeted by a configuration screen. Fill in your message board username and password. (If you haven't already registered a account, please visit the VPC message board and do so now.) If you installed Perl or MySQL to another drive other than C:, point the configuration boxes to the drive and folder(s).
4. If you've registered your copy of VPCOLR (a complimentary registration key is a VPC Crew membership benefit), you can enter the registration key by starting VPCOLR and selecting Help: Registration. Remember that your registration information is case sensitive.
Please see the Pilot Shop under Memberships for details on registering your copy of VPCOLR.
5. Update VPC OLR to the latest version by shutting down VPCOLR, then installing VPCOLR21upgrade.exe and
OLR183-setup.exe.
Installation Tips
Windows NT, 2000, and XP
2. Next, go to Control Panel: Administrative tools : Services and scroll down until you see the MySQL entry and double click on it.
3. Set the startup type to Automatic, and start the service (if it's not).
Now everytime you reboot your computer MySQL will start automatically in the background.
Proxy Server Instructions
1. Open folder "C:\Program Files\FlightAdventures\VPC_OLR\"
* Required
OLR.PL, the offline reader for the DCForum-based FlightAdventures forum requires, at the minimum, two distribution files to be installed:
Please see the Pilot Shop under Memberships for details.
New Installations
Windows NT, 2000, and XP require MySQL to be started as a service.
1. If you've installed MySQL to drive C:, go to Start: Run and type C:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt.exe --install (note the single space before the two dashes) into the Run box and click OK.
If you access the Internet via a Proxy Server, you'll need to add a proxy server to the olr.ini file. This may also be required if the OLR is not saving your proxy settings during the first setup:
2. Open file OLR.INI with notepad
3. Add/Ammend the following line at the end of the file;
proxy=http://yourproxyhere.domain.com:1080
4. Save changes to OLR.INI
OR (to remove proxy)
proxy=none
5. Start up the VPC OLR, and do a Get/Send Pass to test the connection settings
