"Question for Patty"

Patty -

On-line video of the Russian Su-35 fighter. It has canards, thrust vectoring, and F-15 like
control surfaces. Quite a combination, especially when viewing the tail slides and "cobra" maneuvers. When the video looks like it's stopped the first time wait a sec, it will continue for another minute or so.

What kind of g's might the pilot be pulling in those "cobra" maneuvers? Also are the canards controlled separately from the other flight controls or are they linked?

Thanx,

Vic

Hi Vic

Well the SU-35 is a very sexy airplane indeed! I can't tell you about the canards or vectored thurst, but I am sure all flight controls are linked, although vectored thrust would be controlled differently. I am guessing that the pilot in this video is pulling between 8 and 9 G's at the speeds he's pulling up.

I'll be flying the Texan II (JPATS) for Raytheon this summer at the Farnborough UK Airshow, so maybe I'll have a chance to see the SU-35 and get some more info about it.

Best,
Patty

Whats a typical show flight for you in the Texan II; is it capable of any snapping or tumbling manuevers, or more roll and looping type?

In other words, would you trade the E300S for one??

Hey Dave

Well, I wouldn't trade the Extra for anything! The good thing about flying different airplanes is that I always appreciate the amazing strength and maneuverability of the Extra when I get back in it.

The Texan is stressed to +7 and -3.5. It's not stressed for snap rolls, so the routine is verticals, loops, rolls and that type of thing.

I'm looking forward to flying the airplane at Farnborough this year.
