"one more question"

Sorry to keep nagging with these questions but I have so damn many! Where is the best place on the web or in print media to narrow my search for used aerobatic aircraft ?

Thanks,
-Mike

No problem. An active board is a happy board :-).

Two places I visited regularly during my airplane search were Barnstormers and Trade-A-Plane Online. If you subscribe to the print version of Trade-A-Plane, you get member's access to the online listings, including automatic e-mail notification when ads are posted that match your search criteria. I looked at so many ads that it's hard to remember exactly now, but I think that e-mail notification helped me to move quickly on the Pitts S-1S I ended up buying.

Hi Mike - welcome to the message board :).

You needn't feel guilty about asking lots of questions - some very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful people read and contribute to these message boards and I'm sure they're happy to offer you assistance getting started in aerobatic flying.

Welcome aboard and don't hesitate to ask for further help or advice (although I'm personally unable to offer the level of expert advice in this field that others at this message board clearly are).

-Stephen.

Hey Mike glad to see another soon to be acro junkie. Lots of good questions. Tom has answered most of them very similar to how I would have but I'll ad a few more thoughts. Barnstormers is my favorite search site and Trade-A-Plane is second. A third one that is ok is www.globalplanesearch.com they have a section for aerobatic AC. It has a lot of double hits but it seems to list some stuff thats not on the other two.
Don't be too scared of a homebuilt/kitbuilt/experimental whatever you want to call it aircraft. I have seen some used factory planes that I would be scared to taxi in. There are plenty of homebuilts built with better quality than a production aircraft. Whatever type of AC you choose a pre-purchase is a must by a knowledgeable mechanic. Both the Eagle and the Pitts are awesome aircraft with proven track records. An Eagle is very similar in performance to the S2-A with more creature comforts. More visibility, more cockpit room, nicer lines etc. The S2B has the obvious horse power advantage but it sucks down a lot more gas and has 2 more cylinders to maintain. If your not sold on a 2 place it's hard to beat the bang for the buck in a nice S1 pitts weather it be a C/S/E or T model. If all that confuses you take a look at Bud Davidsons web site www.airbum.com he's a pitts nut and has written a bunch of great articles on them including one that explains the differences in models.
Well with all the info and research material Tom and I have left you with you should be busy for a while but feel free to ask as many questions as you want and we'll do our best to answer them. There's some more links on my web page you might be interested in as well so if you want to take a look.

There are a number of resources for looking for aircraft. http://www.trade-a-plane.com/index.shtml is certainly one to check. You can get a partial look at whats for sale without a subscription online but a subscription will allow you to see more. http://www.aerotraderonline.com/ is another place to look but you'll see fewer aerobatic aircraft shown there. http://www.barnstormers.com/ is another good resource - many advertise there because the cost can be lower. Word of mouth is another good (sometimes better) way to find an aircraft. If you join your local IAC chapter and get the word out that you are looking for an aircraft, you may find something close by.
