"Refresh page issue"

Ben - This is more a FYI message than a real problem but I've noticed that *sometimes* when I click the message board link nothing happens. Took me a while to figure out that if I reload the page the link will work. Using IE5.5 SR2. Seems that sometimes the cached page doesn't lnik to the message boards ( or any other link for that matter ). CTRL-RELOAD bypasses the cache and then the links work.Anyhow, just wanted you to know in case it becomes an issue.

BTW, I'm sure it's here somewhere but what do the little icons next to the username mean? (the bars.wings, key, etc.)

Greetings Vic:Thanks for the note.
>Using IE5.5 SR2.
That may be an issue with the version of IE that you're running. The latest uproar is that the latest patches for IE removed many Java capabilities due to MS's ongoing battle with Sun. I recall seeing that there was a work around for this latest bit of screw-the-end-user, but I'll have to remember where I saw it. (I've adopted a "if it ain't broke, don't upgrade" philosophy in my old age.)

RTFM. (Read The FAQ's, Man!)
Seriously, these questions can be answered in the FAQ's. For eveyone's convenience we've added a link to the icon legend that can be viewed if you click on the icons on the left side of this message.
But to give you a quick run down:
Wings are for pilots (if you're a pilot, you need only to send us a copy of your certificate and current medical and we'll give you a fee email account in addition to a wing icon) Bars are for VPC Crew (the more people you see with bars here, the more likely we'll still be here next year - hint, hint, hint!) Towers, wrenches, red crosses, etc. are all VPC Crew Stations Stars indicate VIP's and Benefactors Keys indicate VPC member statusThere are more, but that should give you a start.
Best!
Ben

I am a pilot but after having a heart attack several years back, a valid medical is something I don't have. Alas, my flying is limited to FS2002. I'd be happy to scan a copy of my cert and fax/email to you if that will suffice.Vic

This is something that we haven't considered before. After some discussion with the guys, we've agreed that although you may not be current, you certainly have a great wealth of aviation knowledge and skill behind your certificate. Therefore, we'll accept pilot certs (minus the medical) as filling most of the requirements for a set of silver wings. What this means is you'll only be required to you pass the FS portion of our VPPL written exam, and depending on when you last flew (prior to or after the airspace reclassification in 1993), you may need to pass the airspace written as well. (We'll post this new policy on the FAQ page shortly.)
Pass the exam(s) and provide a copy of your cert and you'll have a new shiney set of wings.
Please feel free to drop me an email if you have any specific questions.

>Ben - Sounds good to me. It was before 1993 that I last flew so I'll definitely have to catch up. When the FAQ's are posted I'll see what I have to study and go from there.
Don't know about the wealth of knowledge but I sure have a lot of war stories to tell!
Thanx,
Vic

I'm looking forward to his reinstatement as both an FAA Certificated Advanced Ground Instructor and Instrument Ground Instructor.
