"OLR Problems"
Posted by AlanParkinson on 04-05-02 at 01:41z
I've just downloaded the OLR, and I doesn't want to work.I followed the installation instructions to the letter - steps 1 & 4 worked exactly as expected, but in step 5 there was no "Autostart MySQL" box to check as advised. Clicking the get/send button produced a DOS box with the following at the bottom:
No configuration file found.
Please enter the following values:
Database userid:
Database password:
Database name:
Proxy/none:
You have entered the following values:
dbuser =
dbpasswd =
dbdatabase =
proxy =
These values will be written to your configuration file olr.ini.
OK, to use this values (y/n)?
Hitting Return to leave the database questions unanswered (I didn't know what they should be), and "n" so that I didn't overwrite anything important, the OLR then refused to dial out, and displayed an error message:
CONFIGURATION ERROR
Invalid entry - Unable to LOGIN - Check OLR.INI file!
After shutting the whole thing down, a search of the entire drive revealed no INI file of that name, only vpcolr.ini - should this file be renamed or copied?

Greetings Alan:> I've just downloaded the OLR, and I doesn't want to work.
Did you download Beta2a or RC1? It sounds like you downloaded Beta2a. I don't think RC1 (the public Beta) has been released yet. Please stand by for the proper release.

Hi Ben,>>I don't think RC1 (the public Beta) has been released yet. <<
It was released this morning. I think Alan's problem is OS based. We may need Vic to jump in here depending on Alan's response.

Hi Mike,>

Windows 98 SE on an aging 233MHz Cyrix cpu, 80MB RAM.
I'm also running (as of last week) the ZoneAlarm firewall. I thought this might have something to do with the problem, but whenever Zonealarm detected the OLR's activity I told it to permit the web access.
Windows shows the file version of the OLR exe is 3.0.3.5, and the description is Beta 2.

Hi Guys,I'm still not able to get any sort of connection with the OLR - I did copy the INI file to the name it said it couldn't find or open, that removed the dos questions and subsequent Windows error message box, but no connection is made.
Early in the program's loading procedure, just before the Windows window appears, a Dos box entitled MYSQLD appears, about half full of text. This disappears again very rapidly, but I can just make out the words "Cannot initialise ..." on the first line, the rest is gone too quickly to make out.
One aspect I didn't mention previously is that the modem is actually on another computer, being shared to my machine. My PC sees it as being on Com 3 - it's unusual to have three com ports, but all my other comms software sees the modem without problem.

OK, cancel that previous message (Well part of it, at least)With the new INI, the OLR has downloaded the latest messages, presumably it will also upload this new one.
The DOS box entitled MYSQLD is still showing that initialisation error message when the OLR starts - doesn't seem to be a problem though.

Glad you got it sorted out. The error message regarding initialization of the inno database ( which is basically what the error message is saying) can safely be ignored.
Since we received this message we can safely say you have it configured to both upload and download messages.
If you have any further problems, let us know.
Enjoy,
Vic

Hi Mike,> It looks like you're up and running! Way to go!
I noticed the reports regarding the inno message. This
should be gone if with the new database version, as I told
you earlier.
Does the RC1 still use the old one?

It shouldn't. I used my existing DB and removed the stuff we didn't need/want for the public beta. Strange...

Hi Mike,
Thought I'd jump in here to say I've now installed the OLR beta and experienced a couple of the symptoms that Alan mentioned too (no Autostart MySQL box, and the "Cannot initialise..." message that quickly disappears). However, everything seemed to work OK for retrieving new messages. And if you're reading this then the post reply function is working OK too. The only other niggle I came across was that the install took up a lot of space on my C: drive and Windows 98 kept moaning about it was getting short of space. I reallocated some more from another partition and all seems well again now. So, it's all looking pretty good so far.
Regards....John

Received loud and clear!
Yeah, unfortunately, unzipped it takes a fair amount of space. There's nothing we can do about it at the moment, but solutions will be looked into.

The AutoStart box was removed and somehow the mention of it wasn't removed from the docs. VPCOLR now detects whether MYSQLD is loaded and reacts accordingly. The "cannot initialise..." message is a normal one from MYSQL and can safely be ignored.
