I haven't been inspired yet.

I don't want others to think they don't have an opportunity to submit their plans either.

Anybody else have an idea?

Ben suggested Palm Springs CA to Santa Monica CA.

I was thinking that could be accomplished with departure from Desert Resorts Regl. to Santa Monica Muni. Via Homeland VFR, and the LAX mini route (see earlier Santa Catalina to San Luis Obispo plan). Distance would be 121 miles not including Santa Monica traffic pattern. I still have to use the poster from Ben's book to reasearh what altitude will be required for the legs leading to the mini route.

Or we could fly to the north of LAX avoiding the mini route, I'll look at the poster to see how far we would have to go to avoid all the transports approahing or departing LAX.

Hi Robert:

We could also go SMO to PSP (probably a nicer flight since the runway is a lot bigger there). :)

I'd say, let's take the "northern" route to simplify things.

Thanks!

For a Northerly route a leg betwen Palm Springs a Pomona seems to be through a nice mountain pass. The leg betwen Pomona and Santa Monica seems to barely skirt the main approaches to LAX.

Betwen Desert Resorts and Santa Monica via Palm Springs and Pamona VORs is 122 nm. Since Palm Springs VOR is NW of Palm Springs Airport, Santa Monica to Palm Springs via Pamona looks several miles short of 100 nm.

}> At less than 100 nm we could fly a helicoptor or a Piper Cub!

I'm thinking an altitude of 6500 over and west of Pomona with and an altidude of 2000 on most of the leg betwen Santa Monica and Pomona to be under the northerly section of LAX's airspace (100/25). Desert Resorts has 6800 and 5000 ft (approx) runways so stoping shouldn't be a problem for the propeler powered planes.

Shall we go for the slightly longer trip using Desert Resorts? Which direction, Eastbound or Westbound?

Yep. Banning Pass. Gets quite windy there. In real life there are acres and acres of wind generators there. It's going to be interesting to see what FS has.

Consider flying outbound on a SMO radial and joining a POM radial inbound until you cross. You can avoid LAX Class B that way.

Considering the weather has been clearing up, and there's a lot to see on this flight, taking it slower might be a treat.

See above.

Ah, don't speak too soon! :)

I'll leave that up to you. Either works for me.

Thanks!

Well Roberto as I suggested this past Thurs. night(not for this wk but down the road a flight in the 737 would be different). And Vic suggested maybe a flight in Europe of Asia might be nice.
Roberto, whatever u come up with is A OK with me! Thx TB

I intend to see what the flight times would be between London and Berlin or betwen Rome and Insbrook. If they can be flown in about an hour I'll put up a proposed plan for May 16.
