The Staff and Crew of flightadventures.com would like to invite you all to the forthcoming VPC Flight Rally #15. This flight will take place on Sunday 4th May 2003 arriving at the destination airport for 20:00 ZULU/UTC and then into the Pilot Lounge for the usual chat and a virtual burger and beer afterwards.

As we are all aware by now, some idiot of a politician drastically closed Meigs i.e. the so-called Mayor of Chicago! There is a web site mentioned else where for any one to visit and add their name to the petition to have this decision over turned. This Airport is an Icon in the Flight Simulation World as it's set as the default Start-up Airport in every version of Flight Sim that I can recall. To that end it was decided to hold this months rally to Meigs. I would like to point out that there is no runway available therefore ALL landings will be to either taxi way heading 180 or 360, depending on weather of the day. So choose your aircraft wisely. No Helicopters OR Water Landings in Float planes are allowed.

There are some excellent add on scenery available for most versions of Flight Sim from the usual sites for this airport. But, bear in mind that runways are out (bulldozed).

Please join us on Sunday, 4th May 2003 for the 15th VPC Flight Rally, and make sure to visit the Pilots Lounge after your flight to let us know all about it!

Please read http://www.flightadventures.com/docs/rally.htm and http://www.flightadventures.com/docs/VPCFTI.htm for detailed information on both VPC Flight Rallies and Flight Terminal Information. If you require further assistance or information then please don't hesitate to ask.

**** Remember folks, fly safe and have an enjoyable flight. ****

Hi James,

I am sorry to have missed this rally, especially because
Meigs has been bulldozed. Does anyone know if it is going to
be reopened?

I wonder whether FS2004 will have it as default airport or
what the scenery shows for it. They should definitely add an
"in loving memory of Meigs field" to the package.

Regards,

Guido

Greetings Guido:

So far all that I've read seems to indicate it's not coming back. However, that's not stopping folks from trying.

It's still in FS2K4 Beta. Whether it'll still be the default flight in the release version is anyone's guess, but I'd suspect it'd have to change (no runway--well usable runway). :(
