"Electronic systems failure"

Posted by Guido_Ostkamp on 03-02-03 at 21:37z

Hi,

today I made a very short trip with the Cessna Caravan
Amphibian. When I landed on the water and was playing with
the water rudders, I noticed the engine had stopped for an
unknown reason. Unfortunately I was unable to restart it;
when I went to "realism settings" I found the option for
"electric systems failure" was marked (I never use that
stuff). Unmarking it had no effect, as soon as I left the
menu with OK and reentered it, the option was again marked.
Disabling "damage by aircraft overstressing" did not help
either. I finally had to restart FS2002 to overcome the
problem.

Has anybody encountered similar problems? Is this a known
bug?

Regards,

Guido

Greetings Guido:

It sounds like you ran into two bugs and a quirk with FS2K2.

With some aircraft, they just stop after idling for too long. I don't know what the reason is (perhaps the mixture being too rich). I know this happens in the pistons, but I seem to recall it happening in the Concorde as well, so it may affect the Caravan too.

You probably drained the battery. The battery life in FS2K2 is unrealistically short. (There are some changes that can be made to the aircraft's .cfg files to reduce the problem.) The way that FS2K2 shows this failure is by checking the electrical systems failure box.

That's the way it works. You can't recharge the battery, so it remains checked.

That's because it's an electrical failure.

Switching aircraft would "fix" it as well.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for letting me know. I thought this should never
happen because I always have automixture enabled and the
carburator was definitaly not frozen at this height, but I
had this engine off problem a number of times and it seems
you are just right.

Yeah, I remember that was the case with FS2000 as well, so I
thought it would be fixed in FS2002, but it seems it isn't.

Hi Guido

I believe Pete Dowson's FSUIPC has a fix for the early battery rundown.

Hi Guido -

in re the battery failure - Pete Dowson's FSUIPC has a fix for that.

Hi Vic,

yes, I rechecked and found I had the fix disabled - have
changed that now to a value of 40 to extend battery life.
Thanks.
