Hi All -

Happy New Year!

It occurred to me the other day that, although the VPC members are interested in Flight Simulation, I usually just see the same few people in the flights.

I am assuming that all of us fly the simulator either occasionally or regularly. What I'd like to hear from all of you is when and where you fly. I'm not asking which airports rather the days and times you usually fly and if you just fly at home on your local system or online multiplayer.

For me, I try to get in one quick flight every night. Generally look for bad weather to work on IFR skills. Usually just fly alone at home but occasionally I'll go into the flight rooms at the VPC and fly from there. Other than that, it's the Saturday night flight at the VPC and the rallies.

I'd be interested in what other VPC members do.

Vic Baron

Of course, I could be wrong. I thought I was wrong once before, but I was mistaken.

Hi Vic

Until I got this ADSL connection all my flying was solo, at home. Now, though, I'm getting really interested in online flying.

Done a few flights with VATSIM lately and, now I'm getting the hang of it, plan to try and join in the rally this Sunday. Family issues may intervene however.

The software for this year's BOTA is now out, too, so that will severely restrict my other flying for the next few weeks. Since I entered BOTA last year I've had withdrawal symptoms ever since it ended. Best fun ever to be had with a flightsim.

The 'Battle of the Airlines'. Check out:

Entered it last year for the first time as a team member for my VA (Solent Airlines) and it was the greatest fun I've ever had with a flightsim. No way I would miss this year's race.

Hello Vic,
I try to have some flights after the office hours , mainly these were in stand alone because often I test a new ...something...or I want some ATC assistance or I want some AI ...
I will now regularly use the VPC environment around 20H00 (GMT +1) for flying in "gang" if possible.
I recommend that the host indicates clearly in the flight info the location (USA, Europe) airport , the type of aircraft , the expected end time, etc ...

Hi Vic,

I tend to fly on or off line during the week (when possible) VFR UK and mostly Helicopter's.

Week ends is the time for Heavies either European or Long Haul flights and depending on the situation those will be either on line or off.

Hi Vic

I usually fly late evenings and weekends but have not yet tried on line flying.

Your question actually made me realise that I spend too much time looking for add-ons etc. and installing them rather than just selecting an aircraft and route and enjoying the fun. I will now make a concerted effort to spend more time in the air.

Kind regards

Bob Buckley

Hi Bob-

Glad to jog your mind <g>. I think we all tend to do that. I have several aircraft that I like to fly and try to get a little in every night. It seems to make it more enjoyable for me.

Take care,

Vic

Hi Vic,

As a member of Tradewind Domestic Mailservice (TDM), a
subdivision of Tradewind Carribean Airlines (TCA) I am doing
short flights on the Carribean and Hawaiian islands mostly
with Props and TurboProps, mostly VFR, sometimes IFR.
Although TDM does have a large number of flights available
in their schedule, I can fly when I have spare time and I am
not bound to flights which have been ordered by some
HUB-Commander.

Additionally I like doing some simple uncontrolled
multiplayer flights from time to time, the flightrallies
etc.

Guido

Greetings Vic,
Late as usual reading the message board. Sorry about that.
I forget which FS Manual it is in but the author,s (Ben!!) advice about not keeping a flight log is a valid one as regards me. If my better half ever got evidence of how many hours I log up... OH- Boy :)
I definately fly every day, like yourself setting sometimes extreme weather, generally locally the reason being I have downloaded the majority of Aus terrain mesh and airport scenery. I have a leaning towards light aircraft and "bush" airfields, short flights into and out of tricky areas, min visib. etc.
I fly multiplayer with VPC whenever there is a flight scheduled and yes I often feel disappointed in that there is not more of us take part, I,m sure if they did they would "hooked " and come back for more.
That,s my "two bob,s worth Vic". :) hope it may help,
Regards Andy.

Before work got so busy I used to fly almost every day for 1 to 3 hrs but lately, it's been twice a week. I have a self-imposed rule that I cannot take off from an airport I have not landed at (sucessfully). It all started at Meigs. The rallys take several legs. Also I have an on-going project to fly to each state on a rotating basis, a different airport each time. And to all the countries, I catch them on the rally flight, useually. It's time-consuming but a lot of fun and almost as good as flying over the landscape in real life.

You know, there are a lot of things that seem to get relegated to the "twice a week" category as time goes by.
