"Dauphin Helicopter gear"

Posted by debohde on 09-01-02 at 03:38z
Hello friends,
I have d'loaded Aerospatiale AS365N3 Dauphin v1.1 by Antti Pankkonen designed for use in FS2002. For some reason, everything works except the landing gear retraction. I've checked the controls assignments for the keyboard and its set at the default of "g" for gear. But nothing happens when I press the 'g' key. I have an older version of the Dauphin (designed for fs98) and when I installed it into fs2k, it too had all working parts except for the operation of the landing gear. Sometimes after a crash (yes I still crash sometimes) when the copter comes back into view, the landing gear is now retracted, but then I can't lower it. Probably somthing stupid, but would appreciate your wisdom!
Thanks in advance!!
Blessings,
Donn

Hi Donn,

I've no idea as to why this happens, kept meaning to e-mail the author but got side tracked. I have this aircraft and in the end just gave up on it. Try contacting the author to see what he suggests.

Hello Donn,
In several forums on several Flight Sim sites there is a lot of topics concerning the gears and helis, I remember that all say that in FS2002 it is NOT possible to retract the landing gear, seams to be a bug.
I know it does not help you...

Emile, how can you say that? This is the finest piece of software Microsoft has ever put out in a long history of incredible, bug-free software. If it were not perfect, M$oft would be happy to be coming up with patches for their failures. I am appalled that you would even suggest such a thing....

OK, so it's not a bug - it's a FEATURE...!!!

For some strange, inexplicable reason, some strange inexplicable person discovered that the sim must be paused to retract the gear of helos. MS, of course, in their perfection, were clearly not expecting that their perfect recreation of flying on a home pc might ever include such strange, inexplicable devices as wheels that fold away on a helicopter - you'd have thought those `experts` (they fly their own aircraft y'now..?) might have asked Bell, or Boeing or Aerospatiale or MBB or Westland or maybe even seen it for themselves. Wonderful thing, television ... (cont'd p.56)
