"Matrox Parhelia questions for Mel"

Mel,

Before I toss out an arm and a leg for the Parhelia, I was hoping you could give me some direction here.

What I'm wanting to do is have the server contain the parhelia card that will drive three 21" monitors for the Left (-45°) side, Center (0°), and Right (45°) side.

Then I want to have a second computer, or client if you will, also with a parhelia installed, drive the views for the far Left (-90°) and far Right (90°) side.

Will this work?

I guess my biggest question is how will the clients comunicate with the server to let the client views run syncronization? WideFS??????

If you get a chance, can you help me here to plan out this contraption?

Thanks a bunch and anxiously awaiting more pictures of your setup.

Robert

Robert,

I feel your pain. Grin.

Your requested setup is not possible, at least to my knowledge.

You of course can do the first idea....3 monitors running a left 45 degree view(or close to that angle), a Center View and a right 45 degree view. However, you will be limited to 640x480 graphical size when you do that and that will cause you to lose quite a bit of detail in the scenery.

It will NOT be possible to configure on a separate computer with another Parhelia video card a presentation of a LEFT 90 degree and a Right 90 degree view...as the video card and DirectX will only allow an "expansion" to either side of the view that is on a CENTER monitor. In other words.....you could see that Right 90 degree view if you centered your middle monitor on Right 45 for the left monitor, the Right 90 for the middle monitor, and the Right 135 for the right side monitor.

In my setup I am using 3 computers with 6 monitors to give me a view presentation of about 240 degrees of view...the side monitors can produce the prop views on the wings of the DC3 and or the jet engine view on the 747.

I use dual head views...two monitors on each and that allows me to up the graphics to 1024x768 on the TFT screen monitors.......the maximum graphical output of all of those monitors.

I do plan to upgrade the monitors, maybe in time for Xmas (Grin) to a higher level....but please don't tell the wife!

There is some hope for the future that DirectX will be modified to allow a higher than 640x480 across 3 monitors as the Parhelia card can ALREADY do that in other programs or games that do not require DirectX.

And, yes....to coordinate the views you need to run Luciano Napolitoano's WIDEVIEW software, free of course, and a software program that works BRILLIANTLY for this type of a presentation.

The URL for WideView is at

<http://wideview.00server.com/>

Mel

Hi Tarmack,

I know you like the DC3 and you use PM's Glass Cockpit etc. Do you have a txt file available for the DC3 to place in PM's CDU/Types folder?

James,

Nope....never found a txt file for the DC3 to use with PM...but the Gmax R4D doesn't have autothrottles enabled anyway so there is little need as I don't use the CDU and MCP from Magenta for control of the airplane.

I set the Aerosoft MCP hardward to only work with FS2002 commands, rather than the Magenta selection, and then simply use Autopilot in HDG and ALT mode.

Works good enough for an old Gooney!

Mel

Hi Mel,

No problem :-) I'm still waiting for my Aerosoft MCP, hopefully I should get it within the next couple of weeks :-)
I ain't looking forward to the UK VAT that no doubt will have to be paid when it does turn up :-(
