"Finally got here!"
Posted by SB9DV on 08-24-02 at 10:02z
Hi all,Well, I finally got here! And I still have WindowsXP Home sitting on the shelf above me!
Don't know how I did it but I'm here...
To update you all, I finally moved house on 12th June and its nice out here in the country!
Still flying the -400 in FS but branching out into the 737 (DreamFleet) and soon the 767 (PIC) as soon as I can get a copy - they are scarce now it seems.
Hope everyone is well and best regards to you all,
Cheers,
Lee James

Hi Lee,>>Yes, I see there is one available. How much does it cost and how do I

The fully functional but unregistered version is free, and is available here: http://www.flightadventures.com/downloads/OLR_dwnld.htm . However, with a crew membership, you get to register your OLR, and get the many other membership perks that go along with joining the crew (along with a bar <g>). The crew memberships are what helps keep the VPC doors open, and it's very affordable. All the info is here: https://www.flightadventures.com/cgi-bin/pilot_shop/memberships.html#CREW
Thanks!

Ok, apparently you're still having problems on your end. I tested that link before I posted it, and tested it again just now, and it's fine. At any rate, try this to get to the dl page: www.flightadventures.com/downloads/OLR_dwnld.htm. I'm posting this via the OLR and took out the http:// bit so hopefully it doesn't show as a link. Alternatively, you can go to the main page (www.flightadventures.com/vpc.htm) then click on the pilot shop, and follow your nose from there.
Give us a shout if you still have problems.

Ok, that causes a "page not found" error on my PC here (I'm at work and we access the Internet via a network system). I tried removing the /OLR_dwnld.htm part but that didn't work.
I did get through from the main page though and found the info I wanted to look at.

When you click the link on the message board message, does the error message show up in the existing window or in a new (pop-up) window?
I'm just guessing here, but I think you may have pop-ups disabled or Java is misconfigured. If it's the latter and you're using IE, our VPC_cfg.exe file will fix your Java settings--that is provided that you've got a working copy of Microsoft VM installed.

>>When you click the link on the message board message, does the error message show up in the existing window or in a new (pop-up) window? <<
Ok, not sure about this really. I get a new page, not a window. Its the usual yellow page but its a new one with the error message on it.

I can certainly get pop ups - they appear all the time with the usual anoyance these things create! Every time I have a look at FlightSim.com its always popups and I spend half my time cancelling them! <g> So I guess they work...
As for MSVirtual Machine, well that I'm not sure about. I have IE5.5 fully updated, running on Windows 98 SE machine.
Can you tell me more about this VPC_cfg.exe? I'm reluctant to run anything on my machine that I don't fully understand.

'Bout time too <G>Welcome home Lee, pleased to see you and glad the house move is completed.
In one of the Avsim forums some time back someone else was having problems locating 767PIC in the UK and a reply said they had found some in Electronics Botiuqe (sp?).
If no joy with Flight 1 it might be worth checking out the local PC World or game stores.
Hope the family are well and Holly has stopped getting her childhood infections

Yes, it was not too difficult actually. It was the after effects that were the toughest! But its nice down here in the country and the Summer has been nice here as has the welcome from the Village generally. We are pleased we made the move.

I actually sawa copy in PCWorld but didn't get it (£24.99 as well!) but it will turn up I'm sure.
>>Hope the family are well and Holly has stopped getting her childhood infections
Holly has not been ill since February, touch wood. She is very well and growing up and is turning out to be a well adjusted kid with a nice nature - and she looks up in the sky now at all the planes and knows the difference between a 777 and a Jumbo! (honestly, nothing to do with me!<g>)

Thats fine. BAV suits me very well and I found a nice bunch of people there. Right now, the membership is capped at 1000 and we have 46 people wanting to join so there's a waiting list right now. That may change though...
But I'm all in favour of finding the right set up that suits they sort of flying you want to do.

Hi Lee>> Well, I finally got here! <<
And about time too <g>. As Frank says, let's hope you don't wait so long for your next visit
When you finally track down the PIC 767 take a trip over to avsim (if you haven't already) and check out their PIC 767 forum. Masses of useful info. I rarely fly anything else these days. Wonderful bird (with a learning curve to match) but don't use the latest (August) patch with it. It's caused me, and others, mucho problems.

Hi Paul, >>And about time too <g>. As Frank says, let's hope you

Oh, I don't plan to be a stranger as such. For the moment, it seems I am in here - it seemed a hopeless task trying to get in here when I seemed to be getting in everywhere else. But as long as I'm here and welcomed then I'll try to contribute as much as I can.

Thanks for the tips. Yes, I visit the AVSIM Forum now and again but not too often. I have been flying the PSS 744 and other variants for ages now and enjoy that. Missus got me the DreamFleet 737-400 Greatest Airliners package (FS2002 compatible) and am enjoying that too, especially the overwing views which seem to be missing a lot these days. Always nice to look out of the window!
I have the PSS Airbus but am looking forward to the Wilco version as it looks more interesting, which is a bit of a leap for me since I am not an Airbus fan at all - keep it Boeing thats what I say! The 737 now gives me a short range/field airliner option.
The 767 is something I want to complete the hanger so to speak. Now I look for a good private prop aircraft although there is a good looking Gulf Stream V available that seems worth a try too...
Ah, too may jets..... <g>
Flying online with RW and SB is good now and my system can handle it all in MP too. Just finding the time.....

looks more interesting,<Have a look at some recent threads at avsim before jumping in Lee, there is some negative comment about the visual accuracy of the aircraft; it is only Beta but some doubt that it will be improved.
Greatest loss is the A340, DF was going to do one but pulled the plug, Simbuild have closed their web site and PSS said they weren't going to do one because there were others doing the model.

Hi Dave,>>Have a look at some recent threads at avsim before jumping in Lee, there is some negative comment about the visual accuracy of the aircraft; it is only Beta but some doubt that it will be improved.
I was not planning to buy it until I had read reviews of it anyway, but I take your point. One wonders how they know about the visual model and that it won't be improved. Someone breaking NDA maybe? Many have raved about the 767 PIC and its FMC and other things and this does not inspire them to consider the Wilco offering? Find that strange too. Its always good to wait and see and try to make imformed decisions I think...

PSS never actually said that. They have stuck to their published project list (A320, Dash-8, and maybe a new Concorde thereafter) - they have not said that they will not do the A340. If their current project list works and the time span of the A320 is anything to go by then it will be a while before they are in a position to consider the new project - and by then FS2004 will be upon us!
But there is always cause for optimism! Especially now as the current FS2002 is so good. Look at the wonderful thimgs being doen with mesh terrain? Great!

As to the raves about the 767, this also is the cause of bitchin' about the visual model.
The visual model of the 767 was not that great and hammered frame rates and was never fixed by Wilco, and they did the visual model, not Eric's team.
Also Eric's team are not involved in the A320 (as I understand it) so you cannot compare the systems side of things with the 767.
As you say, time will tell. I have the PSS 'Bus so will not be tempted to leap at the Wilco one.

Ok, I understand....

Ok, thats a lot clearer now. Thanks for the input.

I also have the PSS bus but it lacks something. The PSS 744 is my all time favourite but I liked their 777 also - unfortunately it does not perform well in FS2002.
Guess I'l stick to Boeing!

Hi Lee>> as long as I'm here and welcomed then I'll try to contribute as much as I can. <<
Heck, of course you're welcome, as are your contributions.
>> Missus got me the DreamFleet 737-400 Greatest Airliners package ... Always nice to look out of the window! <<
Yes, that's a neat touch.
>> Flying online with RW and SB is good now and my system can handle it all
in MP too. Just finding the time..... <<
Ah, yes, time (or lack of it <g>) - that's a constant source of annoyance to me too.

Lee!!!Nice to see you finally made it. Rumour has it that someone captured you on film, and God shudders at the thought of you, Kit, and Melo loose on an unwary countryside again... only way to scare him worse would be to have CON on the run with you...
