"image posting problem"
11-28-01, 18:49z

Ben - Tried every way I know to post an image with no success. Image is on my C: drive in \temp.

Tried
"C:\temp\IFRfright.gif"
<"C:\temp\IFRfright.gif">
<http://C:\temp\IFRfright.gif>

and a few others. Previewed post and just got whatever text was typed.

What am I missing here ;)

Vic

Hi Vic,

I'm not sure, but the image may need to be on a site accessible to the VPC server. In addition, use instead of <> for any html code.

What Mike said. :)

His last bit was missing the (brackets) instead of <> for html code.

LOL! I did type them, but I forgot how the page would interpret it (as nothing obviously <g>).

I figured out the part about the brackets but I still don't know how to include a .gif in a post :(. Are you saying that all images must reside on the server?

Since the image is on my local drive and your server wouldn't have access to same, is there a way to include screenshots or other images in a post :Q:

Thanx,

Vic

Hi Vic,

I think the easiest way, is to set up one of those free homepages that many providers offer. Then use it as just a file repository, and link to the GIF from there. Here's a good place to start http://geocities.yahoo.com/home

Hi Vic:

Mike's suggestion is the cheapest option (very hard to beat free). Since we pay for bandwidth, and harddrives cost $, we can't offer file space for everyone or even crew only with the price that we're charging. However, if there's interest in such a service, we could come up with a higher level of VPC membership that would offer some storage space on one of our servers.

Just thinking out loud.

Ben

Ben -

Yeah, I guess that would work but it seems a bit of a hassle just to be able to upload a picture in a message. What started this is a cartoon that I saw that I wanted to share - including it in a message seemed the easiest, but setting up a website to link the picture.......

Another thought also, the ability to display screenshots in a message will help those who need advice on setting up FS2k2. I realize all this takes bandwidth but it's something you might look into.

Avsim allows images in a message and Flightsim has a separate forum for images. Of course there are a few individuals who abuse the priviledge.

Vic
