Ben Chiu Certificates/Ratings/Crew Stations: "ACARS away mode" 02-12-02, 09:36z  Greetings! We've added an "away" mode to ACARS. Once enabled the word "away" will appear next to your name on the online users list. We're hoping this feature will come in handy if you have to leave your computer for a few minutes. Some members have expressed some frustration when sending messages to people that aren't there to reply. OK, at first this may seem like nit picking, but it was a feature that we thought could be useful, so we added it. While we're on the subject of ACARS, we'd like to request that everyone keep ACARS open (it'll run minimized) when you're here at the VPC. When members shut ACARS down even though they're actually here, it gives the wrong impression to visitors (that the VPC is deserted). You're all no doubt aware that if the VPC looks deserted when it really isn't, it won't help us build a larger community. "RE: ACARS away mode" 02-13-02, 12:30z  It seams that there is/can be a long delay between the posting and the delivery of the ACARS Messages, I had the case that I did receive the "alarm" almost 1/2 hour later after the message was posted. Hi Emile: It shouldn't take anything nearly that long to receive a message. However, the incoming message sound can be inhibited by other programs running (games, etc.), so that may have been the cause of the delayed alert.
