"Concorde"
11-09-02, 16:29z

Ray Proudfoot may be able to answer this, as he was (is?) keen on flying this aircraft.

I have succeeded in installing the FS2000 (?) version of Concorde and it flies OK. Not tried 50,000 ft or a long haul yet but It will take off and climb with promise.

My question: The front wheel has a severely flat tyre :-). Why is the plane pitched forward like this and can anything be done to rectify?

Hi James

I have installed the Concorde.gau file but not the FS2002 update.

After I posted this message I did go to Flight Sim and found a file by Paul R Varn enclosing effects and dynamics fixes. Is this the one?

Regards
frank

Hi Frank,

Not as far as I know? There is a patch from the initial Concorde PSS developers for FS2002.
Haven't been to the web site for a while so will dig out the file for you!

What's your email address??

Regards,

James (CONman) Anderson

Hi Frank,

Sorry to be a latecomer on this topic. I would recommend you download and install se-conc.zip available at www.flightsim.com. Then add Paul Varn's modified AIR file which is the most accurate around. Also available at flightsim - name is 2K2JOYPA.ZIP.

Give me a shout if you want some info on how to fly her. I do still fly her but not as often as I would like.

Hi Ray

Thanks for those tips and for the offer of further help if needed.

Having got the setup to a very satisfactory level I am now looking forward to some serious flying but am a bit like a kid in a candy store :-) The 421C Golden Eagle is distracting me rather. It's a gem IMHO, and with 3 screens and 2 graphics cards I can have all its instruments to hand and the large projected screen just for the scenery.

Incidentally, I find the new VFR Photographic disappointing.
Have you tried it yet?

Best regards
Frank

Hi Frank,

>> Incidentally, I find the new VFR Photographic disappointing. Have you tried it yet? <<

PMFJI, but I am using it, and it is the best thing that ever happened to FS, for me, anyway, and of course in my opinion. For the first time since the attempt to provide accurate VFR scenery for FS4, I am really enjoying VFR flights again, using detailed maps. This scenery is so good that I can identify everything on the 1:50000 O/S maps (the 1¼" to 1 mile ones) and in fact I've invested in a full set of O/S 1:50000 CDs to get Memory Map Navigator to provide such a detailed moving map as I'm exploring.

Flying very low you must expect to be disappointed. To get a resolution high enough for anything below 1500' AGL or so, the sheer size would have been prohibitive. As it is, the whole of England (and maybe Wales?) will use up about 8 GB of HD space. Furthermore, very low flight wil make the scenery appear strange because what looks reasonably 3D from above will look flat too low - naturally the buildings won't stand up. Autogen is no good as it places buildings where no buildings should be, etcetera.

I used to live in Langley, (Bucks as it was then), about 5 m West of EGLL, and taking off from Gary Summons' EGLL (which fits in well) and flying that way, I can recognise my house, school, school playing fields, everything. I enjoy it flying at about 2500-3000 feet.

The cities can look a little rough if they "lose focus". Flying or slewing fast will make this happen. I've found that limiting the FS frame rate down to 20 or even less (I have mine at 15) helps stop this. Also, for nVidia cards, the Omega drivers, set for "quality" rather than performance, really make the scenery look good -- and most ESPECIALLY the countryside. Flying VFR by following roads, railways, even country lanes, referring to maps, is a real joy.

What is it that you find disappointing?

Regards,

Pete

A magnificent example of thread drift which so enlivened the old FS Forum - who would have expected to find such a gem of a report on low level VFR flying in a thread entitled "Concorde" !

Thanks for that Pete, I hope that there will be a demo at Birmingham latest this month so we can see for ourselves.

Bryn

LOL! Unfortunately, until they update this forum software, there's not much we (as sysops) can do about it other than a hit with the ruler on the backside of the hand....*WHACK*....did that work? <vbg>.

Hi Pete

Re VFR Photo Scenery:
>>What is it that you find disappointing?<<

You know what they say about one man's meat :-) - but I suspect I haven't given it a chance. Another FS nut is visiting this evening to try it out, so I shall have a chance to see what I'm doing wrong - if anything.

My first runs were adversely affected I think by the resolution I use. My projector runs at XGA and that does lose definition on a 4'x3' screen. Bob Sidwick said I should run it on my 18" TFT. I'll try that.

I flew at between 2& 3000 in the C172, so I took it slowly and at recommended heights. Also I didn't like the water texture, so I took that off. But.... I'll report again after this evening.

Best regards
Frank

Hi Frank,

I assume the 421 is a snail-like turbo prop? If so then you'll not find me anywhere near it. ;-) I'm amazed that you can fly both that and Concorde. Just don't get the checklists mixed up! :-)

I saw the VFR scenery at Pete's and although it was a huge improvement (in terms of detail) over the default FS2002 stuff it really isn't my cup of tea as I'm really a jet only pilot. I see Pete has jumped in with his views and I'm sure you'll find plenty of PCs using that scenery at Brum.

I trust we'll see you there on Saturday week?

Hi Ray

My taste in aircraft is all-embracing. That's why I can't fly any of them properly ;-)

Yes, I have had Pete's views. As Bryn has said, we are guilty of past crimes with thread drift.

When I do my next report, after this evening's efforts, I'll open a new thread. I can foresee a lot of input on this one.

Sadly, I can't make Birmingham this year. It sounds promising too. I shall be thinking of you all.

Best regards
Frank

Hi Frank,

I know what you mean - jack of all trades; master of none although you're probably being a bit hard on yourself. I tend to stick to the 767PIC (especially now I have the MCP unit) and occasional forays with Concorde. I have also been known to take the Baron up but only for sight-seeing.

Sorry I won't see you at Brum. Hopefully you can make it next year.
