"Is it possible to use Parhelia and PCI adapter together?"
11-06-02, 17:02z

Hello everybody!

I am a newbie in this forum. Hope my questions are not too inane. :)

I just recently splurged on a parhelia set up with 3 19" TFT monitors - mainly to run FS2002. Was a bit disappointed with it initially - and had a lot of problems getting it to work. Posts in this forum were very helpful. The upgrade to XP proved to be a real pain, and it was a real let down to find out that the DirectX7 issue means that for FS2002 only the 1920 * 480 resolution is supported.

However now that its "working" I feel it was - almost - worth all that money. Running on a 1.4 gig Athlon, with all the scenery options maxed out, it gives a very smooth 23fps external view across the 3 screens, and actually the low resolution does not look at all bad.

Now for the questions and requests for advice if I may? :)

What I want to do is use the parhelia and the 3 19"TFT's for the external display, and display the panel thru a PCI adapter (ATI Radeon 7000 32M DDR is one I have lying around). Initial results just connecting in the PCI adapter were not encouraging - the PCI adapter always comes up as the primary display and as the secondary adapter the AGP Parhelia is totally unstable - usually doesn't even display anything. (the motherboard is an ABIT KT7A RAID). Latest copies of all the drivers and the BIOS are installed.

Has any one done this - got a 3 head Parhelia system to work as primary display with a PCI adapter as secondary display? I imagine if XP can boot it like that then its a breeze to get FS2002 to use the displays as needed.

I would welcome your advice. If anyone has got it working like this could they let me know what motherboard and PCI card they used? After splurging all that money on the Parhelia and the monitors then I guess I would be prepared to swap out the motherboard and get a different PCI card if needed....

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Welcome to the VPC! You'll find alot of helpful folks around here.

They never are, and never will be! Ask away.

Since I have not yet delved into the realm of the Parhelia (yet), I'll have to defer this question to someone more knowledgeable on the subject. If Mel Ott is reading, hopefully he'll jump in with some insight. Others as well of course.

There may be a motherboard BIOS option to force the AGP card as primary.
