"Great Loss"
09-09-02, 05:13z

Here's a very sad note we received from Jeff Drake.
=================================

To All,

I had some trouble posting this on the message board. If some one would
please post this it would be much appreciated.

Last week, the airshow world lost a great performer.

Kirk Fulton was tragically killed in an automobile accident south of his
hometown of Lubbock, TX. News of the accident travelled quickly between the
local pilots.

I have known Kirk since I was a little boy, and he was always a very close
friend of the family. His death is a great loss not only to the world of
aerobatics, but to the world in general. He was always one that could bring
a smile to almost anyone's face--sometimes just by simple expressions.

My brother, who was frantically calling everyone that he knew, spoke with
Kirk's mother. Who said, "...now everyone should know why I was always more
worried about his cars than his planes."

Kirk was a wonderful person who brought joy to the lives of many, including
mine and my family, and he will be sorely missed.

Jeff Drake

Always sad to hear of such an event, no matter what the circumstances.

Our thoughts are with the family!

3. "More from Jeff Drake"

More from Jeff Drake:
=================================
The details are still a bit sketchy, but apparently Kirk and his young
girlfriend were travelling south of Lubbock at about 3 am Friday morning
when he or she lost control of the car. They were in his 2002 Dodge Viper,
apparently driving at a very high rate of speed. The DPS report shows that
the car left the west side of the road, nosed into the ditch, and flipped
end-over-end, for over 1/4 mile. The two were not even found until 8 am.
The car was completely unrecognizable. Autuopsies are still, to my
knowledge, pending to see if alcohol was a contributing factor.

It is highly unlikely that Kirk were driving while intoxicated, considering
the fact that he was to fly in an airshow at Lubbock International the very
next day. We think that the local news media is just making news since his
family is very prominent in town. It is also highly unlikely, given any
speed that car can acheive, that Kirk, a former Indy car racer, would lose
it without something going terribly wrong with the car. We don't know, but
this was such a shock that everyone around him and his family is struggling
for answers.

As more details become available we will keep you informed.

Kirk's funeral will be on Wednesday, 9/11, in Lubbock.

Thanks Again,
Jeff Drake

Kirk was a good friend of mine and to a lot of us involved in airshows and in competition. Kirk was a great guy, very funny, very friendly, generous, giving, nice...just wonderful. His birthday was the day after mine and we always talked a lot around this time of year. We had known each other for years and had many fun times together. I'll miss him a lot. Patty
